Is this your cat?

A Riverwalk neighbor posted a comment here that alerted us to the fact that cats have been seen roaming around Conshohocken. Residents missing cats may want to take a walk around.

The commenter posted:
"While walking my dog the last few days I have noticed several cats in town that I have never seen before and don't appear to be strays, I'm wondering if they may have escaped the fire. There was a very friendly light orange tabby on 7th and Hallowell and a gray and black tabby with a heart-shaped tag on Spring Mill between 5th and 6th Ave.If you're missing a cat I'd recommend walking around the area in the early morning."

Replacing personal documents

One of the most important things to take care of is recovering personal documents that were destroyed in the fire. Here’s a list of some personal documents and what to do to replace them.

Driver’s license/state ID card
Drivers licenses and state ID cards for non-drivers are the most commonly used IDs for proof of identity. These documents should be replaced as soon as possible. Contact the Pennsylvania DMV.

Social Security Card
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has no expedited procedure for issuing replacement Social Security cards at this time. Currently, the replacement process requires another form of identification, such as a driver’s license. The process is explained on the SSA’s Web site.

Passport
You’ll have to get a replacement from the State Department. A set of instructions are on the government's Web site. You’ll need photo ID, so get a driver’s license first if you lost that too.

Birth Certificate
You will have to go to the Office of Vital Records of the state you were born in and submit a request. Or, you might have to go the vital records office of county, depending on how your state does it. You will essentially have to provide all the information on the certificate in order to prove that it’s you.

Red Cross information

The local Red Cross has been a tremendous force in providing residents with assistance for meals and clothing via a debit card.

If you are a Riverwalk resident and you have not received Red Cross assistance, please call the Philadelphia chapter 24-hr. hotline at 215-299-4889.

Governor: Register at Spring Mill Fire Department for ID cards

The governor told us to have everyone make their way to Spring Mill Fire Department for valuable information detailing how to get your personal identification cards back (such as driver's licenses, etc.).

Unsure of how to get to Spring Mill Fire Department from your location? Here are directions. It is located at 1210 E Hector St., Harmonville, PA 19428.

Generous offer from IKEA

Just spoke to the folks at IKEA Conshohocken. To aid in the residents' replacement efforts, IKEA Conshohocken is offering a 15 percent discount to Riverwalk at Millennium residents.

Rendell seeks SBA disaster loans for Riverwalk residents

The Philadelphia Business Journal just reported that the governor will seek emergency assistance for Riverwalk residents.

We'll keep you posted.

Governor's office update

Governor Rendell's office has some important information for the residents of the Conshohocken Community afflicted by the devastating fire Thursday night.

While Pennsylvania does not have a grant or monetary assistance program in place, our sources relayed that the governor submitted a request last night for a Small Business Assist (SBA), which if approved, would make low-interest loans available to eligible renters and business owners who suffered damages in the fire. The SBA is slated to review the property damage this morning on site and will make a determination soon.

The request is still pending review, and we'll keep you updated as the situation progresses. You can read the release here.

In related news, our sources recommend residents go to the Spring Mill Fire Department, where volunteers will help with the re-issuance of drivers’ licenses and other personal identification documents. Brochures will be available with information on how to procure social security cards and other important documents.

Spring Mill Fire Department is located at 1210 Hector Street in Conshohocken. Residents should bring the following information: a contact phone number, Social Security number, annual household gross income, address of the damaged property, and insurance information.

Family members can wire money to Riverwalk residents

If family members are looking to wire money to a relative or a friend affected by the fire, the below information will help make it a smoother process for you.

  • Contact the institution where you want to send to or retrieve money from and make sure they are able to accept or send wire transfers.

  • You can find specific bank information on the FDIC's Bank Find. You will need to give the following information so it is good to get it all together before contacting the bank: the bank's routing number (located in the lower left hand corner of your check or deposit slip) and either your account number or the account of the individual who is to receive the money (located in the middle of the check or deposit slip). If you cannot find a bank's routing number, go to the bank's Web page. It is usually listed there.

  • You will also want their bank's address if you are wiring to someone else. Make sure you get a confirmation letter. If you are doing this transfer over the Internet ask them to fax or email you a confirmation so the person receiving the money has it.

  • Make sure you know the identification verification process at the receiving institution. Some institutions will accept incoming wires for non-customers but will require some form of proof of who you are before they release the funds. Make sure you have the identification required or explain up front what you do have and ask the bank if that is acceptable.

  • Be aware there are often charges for wiring money so make sure you are aware of the fees up front.

Replacing lost Medicare cards

If you lost your Medicare card, you can obtain a replacement card from Social Security here.

Replacing your Green Card

If you lost your permanent resident card, the below information will help you get it back. Visit the U.S. Immigration Support Web site for more information on getting back your Green Card as well.

Replacing your U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card, USCIS Form I-551) is straightforward, and requires you to fill out USCIS Form I-90. You can also fill out the I-90 online.

Recovering your degree

If your diploma or degree was lost in the fire, contact your college or university’s registrar. Explain your situation, and ask them to send you a new one. Check this site for your college or university.

Replacing lost marriage documents

Some of you might have lost your marriage license in the fire. Don't worry. Marriage licenses are protected and preserved for you, and it's relatively easy to get a copy.

Marriage licenses (and divorce papers) can be found in the Vital Records Department in the county or state you were married. I searched the Web for "how to obtain a copy of a marriage license in Philadelphia" to give you an idea of how it works. The below information is for your peace of mind that all can be restored without aggravation. Take a look at any additional information.

MARRIAGE RECORDS

A marriage record is a certified or exemplified copy of a marriage application or duplicate portion of the marriage license.

To obtain a marriage record, send a letter containing:

1) the names that the parties used when they applied for a license
2) the date of the marriage
3) a self addressed stamped envelope.

You must also send in two checks, made payable to "the Clerk of Orphan’s Court." The first is for $15.00 to pay for the research. The second check is to be for either $20.00, if you are ordering a certified copy, or $40.00, if you are ordering an exemplified copy. If you need to obtain marriage records, expedition services are available. If you have any questions, please call.

Getting back your Military ID card

For our service men and women who lost their identification in the fire, we asked our armed service people how you can go about replacing your lost military ID card. Below are the responses we received back. Thanks guys!

"You first need to go to the military police and tell them you lost it, they might have it. I know you don't want to, but you will have to tell your squad leader first, then the police, and then to the I.D. card place to get a new one. You usually need a notorized form from the military police before you get another one issued."

"Depends if you're military or civilian. I'm a warrant officer and I just went to the ID section of my administration building and told them I lost it, they got me a new one with no questions asked. If you're enlisted, you'll probably need to tell your platoon leader. If you're a civilian, just go get a new one. You shouldn't need any paperwork because you'll already be in their system. I didn't need any."

"IMMEDIATELY report it to your facility security office. You'll have to fill in a form or two. Then go to your facility's Pass and I.D. office to get a new card. Depending on your service, you might have to go to PSC to get a new card."

"Depends if you are a dependent or not. If you're a dependent, you need your sponsor to go with you to the nearest military base to get one issued to you. Report it soon as possible."
